All living creatures are on a journey; from a beetle crawling, to a bird flying, and to humans walking. All creatures have a sense to provide for their young, even if they have to travel the length of the scary, lonely Worn Path. Eudora Welty told a story entitled "A Worn Path and created its character in human form, but with the name and soul of a strong and powerful bird; Phoenix. They journey Phoenix sets out on time after time for her young has every obstacle on the path to eliminate her, but against all odds she defeats the evil and prevails. If we think of our everyday lives and caring for our own young we would see how hard, tiring, painful, and joyous the parenthood path can be; but our love for our young gives us unknown strength to keep us going on this path; "The path is the path of life, and the story is an attempt to probe the meaning of life in its simplest, most elementary terms. Through the story we arrive at a definition of life, albeit a theological one" (Isaccs p. 333). Caring and raising children is never easy. It is said that parenthood is full of blood, sweat and tears. But what does this actually mean? I believe it to mean that like everything and choice in life is a path, we choose to go left or we choose to go right. Either way will get us to the right place but one path is shorter and wiser, but still filled with many obstacles. As parents we have a burning desire to provide and protect our young by all means, just as Phoenix Jackson does. Despite her frail frame and her delicate age, she sets out for the well-being of her young. We have to fight off evil that lurks in the darkness of the trees and bushes. Phoenix uses a cane to seek out animals and says to them "Out of my way, all you foxes, owls, beetles , and jack rabbits, coons and wild animals!.... Keep out from under my feet, little bob-whites.
