Activities Conclusion: James Dean was a very good actor. He may not have had that long of a career, but he was loved by many different kinds of people. He was a man that would take many risks in his life. It became obvious that the characters in his movies were actually him, and that led to his very tragic death. Dean was born on February 8, 1931, in Marion, Indiana. His parents were Winton Dean and Mildred Wilson. His father decided to give up on being a farmer and went out to Santa Monica, California to be a dentist instead. James attended a public school called Brentwood. Several years later his mother died of cancer. His father then had no other choice but to send him back to Indiana where his aunt and uncle lived because he could not take care of him by himself and still be able to keep a job. It was here James found an interest in sports by playing baseball and basketball, and led the varsity track team his senior year. He also found a friendship with Rev. James DeWeerd, who helped him discover a passionate interest in racing cars and theater. They had a very strong relationship with one another and some rumors even say that it was sexual. James graduated and moved back to California and attended Santa Monica College. He decided that he wanted to transfer to UCLA and major in theater. He appeared as Malcolm in Macbeth and then dropped out a little after that (James Dean). He had a very short acting career of only 4 years from 1951 to 1955. His career ended in a head on collision with another vehicle. On September 30, 1955, Dean was driving a Porsche 550 Spyder very quickly and had gotten pulled over by a police for speeding already. Yet, he still chose to drive at a very high speed at about 80 miles per hour and was unable to slow down
