Benjamin Franklin was a multi-faceted man, due to his achievements that were unexpected of him, his advances through many areas of his life and his faith that many adapted. Born into a large family of ten children, Franklin was not expected to be the leading man he was. His father was a soap maker, and his family thought Franklin would be a part of the clergy. (Ben Franklin The Electric Franklin 1) Franklin's expectations make his successes so much more influential because of his ability to be a leader from a young age and represent America as a powerful nation. Through the printing press Franklin was able to support himself for the rest of his life, which lead him to tackle his curiosities through discovering and inventing. Starting from a young age, Benjamin Franklin was academically more advanced than others which allowed him to be so successful through the printing press from the beginning. Franklin never remembers not being able to read, allowing him to not have to go through as much schooling and being able to start work when he was only twelve years old (Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography 1).Growing up in a family with little money, not enough for school, Franklin was sent to be an apprentice for his brother's printing press. (Ben Franklin The Electric Franklin 1) He worked in his brother's shop for four years, mastering his skill at type-writing and contributing articles that were popular to The New-England Courant (Benjamin Franklin 1). These articles were anonymously sent because of Franklin's fear of his brother's opinion of the apprentice's popular opinion. When Benjamin Franklin told his brother it was him all along, his brother was furious. Shortly after, Franklin's brother was sent to jail because of his strongly worded opinions about the church. Benjamin Franklin took over his brother's printing press while he was in jail. When his brother came back Franklin ran away due to his brother's cruel treatment and disapproval of what Benjamin Franklin had done. He worked in different printing press's in these places, all under different authorities until he settled back in Philadelphia. He bought The Philadelphia Gazette which became the most popular and influential paper in New England.
