Climate change has been a particular hot topic over the last decade. The heating of the planet is causing the ice sheets in the Arctic to retreat and melt. The heating and cooling of the planet is a cyclical cycle that is constantly occurring. However, human actions have caused our planet to warm up faster than ever before. If the ice sheets continue to melt, to a state of an iceless summer, major consequences for the planet will occur. People look and think about the world using various different view points. According to the Global Politics, communitarianism focuses on the state as a moral. It discusses the connection between the individual and the community. This can be applied to the melting of the ice sheets because, an individual’s act reflects on the decision of a community. If individuals refuse to stop acting in ways that negatively affect the environment, the community suffers. Most people have the mind set that they as individual cannot change the community. They believe that their actions can’t effect what happens to the environment. However, this chain of thought doesn’t think about the connection between the individual and the community. Every person is part of a community, and their actions will affect the outcome of a community. Each individual has the right to act however they want when it comes to the environment. Unfortunately, our acts usually have very negative effects on the environment. If every person burns fossil fuels from their individual car, it effects the community. The long term burning of fossil fuels from individuals is collected in the atmosphere and causing the temperature to rise. Communitarianism explains the relationship between individuals and their community. Peoples individual actions cause a rippling effect to the community, and can explain why the ice sheets are retreating at a rapid pace.
