Choon Y. Lee, the author of article “Design and Synthesis of Hybrids between Estrogen and Antioxidants for Breast Cancer Treatment” written in 2010, has proposed a research project in which she presented the methods to inhibit the pro-oxidant as well as oxidative stress effects of free radicals which causes breast cancer. Lee is currently an associate professor in Organic Chemistry at Central Michigan University. Her article was published in several journals such as the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and Journal of Steroid Chemistry. It is noticeable that not only the important findings in her research had made the article worthy, but also the way it was written made such a large impact on her success. In her article, Lee has successfully carried out some of the most important values in writing a scientific paper. Well organization, clear and concise purposes of her writing are some of the most valuable aspects in writing a scientific paper. As most people may think only scientists can critically review scientific paper, yet, surprisingly, a piece of scientific writing is considered to be successful if it was written so that a person who does not know about the field can still be able to read and understand it. Lee’s writing includes most of the aspects that are valuable in the scientific field which made her writing a well-written article that was publish in not only one, but several scholarly journals. In her article, Lee organized her paper based on the requirement of the publisher by having separate, well labeled sections including the abstract, problem statement, project design, dissemination and finally, references. Almost all scholarly journals have slightly different guidelines for the paper. Dr. Ajit Sharma, a professor in biochemistry, advisor for pre-medical students at Central Michigan University has been in the committee for grant proposal application several times. He also has published his works in many medicinal journals for over fifteen years. When asked how a grant proposal should be organized, Sharma emphasized the huge role on the organization of a proposal which can decide whether or not, the proposal will be funded. He stated “Organization is by far the most important thing to be considered prior to even starting the article. It is very important to first give the audiences some ideas on the literature review and then slowly and consistently explain the proposed methods. It is to make sure the audience will not be confuse and easily understand the main points of the writing” (Sharma, personal interview). Since every application committee can come from several different fields and are very specialized in their fields, they may not have full knowledge of the paper; thus, if the organization is not well-organized and is confusing, there would be a great chance that the proposal would fail to be funded. Furthermore, the format of the proposal is also very important, not to mention it is the very first aspect the author should never neglect. Dr. Ajit Sharma noted that since different publishers require different formatting, it is essential to carefully read and follow those guidelines. Publishers state very clearly in their application form that proposals which do not adhere to the formatting requirements will n
