Immigration is an important part of the globalization process. Through the welcoming of immigrants, locals can learn much about other countries, cultures, religions and history in different parts of the world. We can learn to be tolerant towards each other by learning from one another. Immigrants can also learn about local culture, language, etc. and have relevant work experiences that can be useful to them if they get back home. Safety and protection has also been an important cause for immigration. People who live in war zones or countries under totalitarian rule escape from their homes, immigrate to safer and friendlier countries where they can seek asylum. Although there are a lot of positive things to be mentioned about immigration, there is also an undeniable fact that uncontrollable immigration and lack of proper integration system can cause a huge problem in a society, both for locals and the immigrants themselves. If a foreigner in Norway learns the language, has a job, obeys the law, pays taxes, is helpful to other people, yet maintains a lifestyle inherent to his or her own religious belief/ traditions without telling others to do so, then that perosn has integrated well enough. Assimilation is wrong, but immigrants should be able to contribute positively to society. There is a problem with people who come here with no intention of integrating. They fail to see the problems that can create both for the society and themselves. These people, although not always, mostly come from countries where it they have strict and conservative cultures that are usually based on religion. There are problems with immigrants who do not want to learn or interact with locals. They do not want to have local friends or have any relations with the Norwegian society.
