Francis of Assisi was a man who was a “humble servant of Christ”. He could not decide whether or not to do “continual prayer or to preach sometimes”. He wanted to make God happy but wasn't sure which one would be better. He searched for a way to please God but was so humble he did not trust himself and searched for the answers through other. When he went to brother Masseo he asked him what he should do and brother Masseo told Francis of Assisi to go and preach. Masseo said this because God didn't only call Francis by himself but “also for the salvation of others”. So Francis of Assisi took Masseo and Angelo and went immediately to preach God's word. He was a Good man and I really liked that he was humble and wanted desperately to do Gods work. Francis praised God and felt like he owed him his life, so he devoted it to Him. Madame Guyon explained two ways of coming to the Lord. The 1st way of coming to the lord is “praying the scriptures” The 2nd way “beholding the Lord”. Praying the scriptures she explained to be coming to God quietly after reading a scriptures and praying to God while reading it to him. She explained that the scriptures you read should not be taken lightly they should be read thoroughly and with deep thought. She explained beholding the Lord to be clearing your mind of everything in the world, everything in your life and only having God. Madame Guyon said to quiet our mind we can use the scripture and as you read you would remain focused. Overcoming external distractions can be difficult but madame Guyon explains that if we stick to the reading the scripture and praying like so then we can to come into the Lord. John Chrysostom relates Jesus death to the death of our own, he says that when Jesus died so did we. He talks about the resurrection of Christ and how we should just as Christ did resurrect.
