One question has risen and has concerned many people, and that is: how does video game playing affect the school performance of college students? It is obvious and proven that any leisure time spent on any other activity unrelated to school will result in a lower performance in school. But, it is said that the content of the game has more of an effect, such as violent games increases aggressive behavior and is linked to a decrease in school performance. And this is what I have done my research on, whether the content of the game, violent or nonviolent, has more of an effect on a student’s school performance and academic achievement rather than time. With leisure time being spent more and more on playing video games, it is obvious that this will result in lower school performance as stated in the, National Endowment for the Arts, "To Read Or Not To Read," that anytime wasted on something other than school work would affect it negatively. But I want to find out if it the content of the video game has more of an effect on school performance rather-than the time spent playing video games. For example seeing if playing sport games for the same amount of time as playing a violent shooting game will affect the outcome of school performance. Since the popularity of video gaming began, and continues to increase there have been many studies about how time spent playing them affected the school performance of students. The answer was apparent as students who played more than others had lower grades. Just like stated in the NEA report "To Read or Not To Read," any time spent doing something other than a school related activity will result in an affect school performance. However, as these studies were being conducted the majority of the games played were violent games when the research was being conducted.
