If you could be one thing or accomplish one thing in your life, what would it be? Now ask your friend the same question. If I had to guess, their dreams and aspirations for life would be different. However, according to Stoicism, that would be incorrect and that we all have the same values and desires. Living according to the ways of Stoicism you would have to be indifferent, emotionless and have the ability to accept everything that happens in your life. Parts of this thinking can be seen as good, but it is not the correct path to lead a full and happy life. Skepticism on the other hand says that everyone is different and reacts to different things in different ways and different things will bring them pleasure and happiness. Which is why Skepticism guarantees a life of happiness. Skepticism respects everyone differences. Skeptics know that not everyone is going to have the same values as the next person and that we will not all have the same wants or pleasures. Skepticism allows us to explore the diversity of humans and of our nature. Skeptics also believe that nothing is intrinsically good or bad, but that we have our own values that we put on to a certain object, thus having different values for things like I said earlier. Also according to skeptics, that in order to have a certain value or values, that you some emotion must be behind it because all values come from human emotions. Skepticisim also realizes that adapting is apart of human nature, which is not the same as being indifferent like in Stoicism. Adapting is using your feelings and personality to adapt to a certain situations whereas being indifferent you just don't care about the outcomes or situations you are faced with. You grow when you adapt, which is apart of life. But when you don't care about what happens, you don't learn and theres no way you can grow as a person, which is why thinking like Stoics isn't the way for happiness.
