In competitive sports many athletes will do whatever it takes to win, such as consuming various supplements, or in some cases even resort to P.E.D.’s, in order to gain a competitive edge over their opponents. One of the most popular supplements for athletes looking to boost their physical abilities is creatine, but there are many concerns about whether the substance is safe or not due to its high salt and sugar content. However in a world where everyone wants to win, the slightest edge over your opponent is worth the possible risks. That is why even though creatine is a high salt, high sugar supplement, many athletes find it beneficial, because it quickly builds muscle, and provides large amounts of good sustainable energy. No matter what sport or physical activity an athlete is competing in, strength plays a great factor in relation to the athlete’s performance. There have been numerous experiments conducted by various scientists on both animal and human subjects to determine whether or not the consumption of creatine showed signs of improved strength in the test subjects. Michael Culpepper, a professor at the University of South Alabama, explains that the improvements of strength were especially evident during more explosive exercises. “Several studies have shown that creatine loading improves muscle strength and performance, either during intense, maximal exercise or during repetitive exercise when compared with the pre-loaded state” (Culpepper). Jay Hoffman, a professor at the college of New Jersey, believes that an increase in the test subjects’ body weight is plays a big part in their improved strength. Hoffman explains that the reason being is, because the increases in body mass is for the most part fat free, and instead caused by both, the body’s skeletal muscle cells filling up with water and the test subjects packing on lean muscle mass. The increase of lean body mass is attributed to an enhanced stimulus of the muscles as a result of a higher quality workout provided by the creatine. To prove that creatine does in fact lead to a much better
