The purpose of this report is to explore employment possibilities in the banking business for people with tattoos and/or body piercings. It will consider typical interviewees and banking business job positions. This research is significant because of the increasing number of people who have tattoos and/or body piercings. This report will consider the society's views and tolerance levels of people with body piercings and tattoos from the past, present, and what we think will happen in the future. Our conclusion that the level of tolerance among the once taboo tattoos and piercings has significantly increased within the years, but banking business job positions still remain firm in keeping them out of the office is based on information and data supplied by an in-class survey of 17 individuals, personal interviews with bank managers, and related documents. Past Generations In past occupational history, businesses strictly monitored employee fundamental clothing, ranging from code uniforms to chosen accessories. It is almost impossible to find evidence of tattoos and/or body piercings in the banking business 20 years ago. The "typical people then to get body art were the bikers, punks, and criminals. Present Generations In present times, views of body modifications have significantly increased not only socially, but in the business place as well. Our generation likes to make themselves stand out in public and try to get a shock appeal from the public. Because everybody likes to be different, people accept change easier. Having tattoos and/or body piercings could actually improve you chances of obtaining a job. There is an extensive gap between the views of older generations and the current generation entering the workforce. Future Generations It is predicted that in the future, people who have tattoos and body piercings will just be another "normal fashion trend. With the tolerance levels of such things constantly increasing, we feel that people won't be discriminated against in obtaining jobs in the banking workforce. On the basis of these findings, it is recommended that to obtain positions in the corporate business, tattoos and body piercings should be covered up for the present time when for face-to-face business conduct. Individuals with such body modifications encounter not only job obstacles, but also occasionally psychological problems. That would be bad for the companies business. These stereotypes had become a sort of taboo in society. According to Examining Pop Culture: Body Piercing and Tattoos by J.D. Lloyd, being taboo is being a contrary person, exceptional and opposed to the other members of society. In other words it's something that makes you different from everybody else in society. It makes you unique. Past generations main goal was to conform to society and be like the "average person. Present generations want nothing more than to stand out in a crowd. In the banking industry, there are a diverse group of workers and clients all interacting. Let's say there may be an older generation client coming to a bank, and has a present generation bank professional as a teller. Let's also assume that the teller has a visible tattoo. The client may find the tattoo offensive and may decide to take their business to another bank. Most bank corporations can't afford to lose this type of business. Most businesses incorporate a cover-up policy and have limitations at to what employees may and may not wear
