The lack in resources, manpower and financial support of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is putting many American lives in danger. The FDA is a government agency which handles the responsibility of ensuring that the food and drug products are safe to consume by the American population. It has been found that even though the workload has increased in the inspections of the foods and drugs that are within the United States and those that come from other countries, the amount of personnel and financing in these areas have remained the same. The unbalance of workload to the available funds and manpower has been the major contributor to the risk that the American population is, has and, will be exposed to if the circumstances do not change soon. Organizational Entity Outline and Overview The Food and Drug Administration is the oldest comprehensive consumer protection agency in the U. S. federal government. Its beginning go back to the appointment of Lewis Caleb Beck from the Patent Office in 1848 do a chemical analyses of agricultural products, a agency that was newly created, Department of Agriculture in 1862. It was not known by FDA until 1930, FDA’s modern authoritarian began with the passing of the 1906 Pure Food and Drugs Act. The law took about a quarter-century to come up with; the law prohibited interstate commerce in impure and misbranded food and drugs. Harvey Washington was the driving force behind this law and headed its enforcement in the early years, providing protection that consumers had never known before that time. The FDA’s mission statement reads, “Its responsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation." FDA is also responsible for advancing the public health by helping to speed innovations that make medicines more effective, safer, and more affordable and by helping the public get the accurate, science-based information they need to use medicines and foods to maintain and impr
