The concepts and information shown through this course will apply to my profession when I leave Rowan. Literacy is not only an important feature of a job in the field of psychology, but it is also important in daily life. When I leave Rowan, I plan on going to graduate school to become a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. Psychology studies two relationships “one between brain function and behavior, and another between the environment and behavior” (Careers in Psychology). This involves following the scientific method, careful observations, experimentation, and analysis (Careers in Psychology). This will require me to use the six types of literacies, however some more than others. The six types are artistic, communicative, global, quantitative, scientific, and humanistic. There are also four dimensions of literacy that will be used: cognitive, linguistic, sociocultural, and developmental. Along with these, reading and writing of complex material will also be important. In the psychology field, it is important to keep up to date on all of the new research, in order to provide your patient with the best treatment. This is why it is so important to know the levels of literacy needed for the job, in order to be successful. The humanistic perspective is used most often, since it deals with being able to understand how human experiences are shaped by the world around them (Core Literacies, Definitions, and Learning Goals). It also deals with empathy, critical awareness, and active engagement with others. According to Qyou Stovall, a good psychologist is an effective listener, possesses self-awareness, is approachable, an effective communicator, and can adapt to all types of situations. When someone comes to talk to a psychologist, they want someone that can listen to their problems and find a solution. They also want to have a certain level of trust, (don't need coma)and know that you understand what they are going through (Stovall). Th
