When George Washington assumed office, the presidency was a highly coveted position. Even with the following presidents in the 1800's, the presidency was such an honor. Kids and even adults would look up to the president as if he was a hero or a God to them. Today, it’s just not the same and the presidency isn't regarded with as much esteem. In my opinion, it’s because nowadays the president is looked at like he’s just a regular person. For instance, when George W. Bush met with construction workers, he would try to appeal to them and fit in with them. The esteem of being president has changed completely ever since this country was born. When you look at the duties of the president, there are a lot more problems and conflicts that arise today than there were in the 20th century, and that’s mainly because of technology and progression. As time progresses, we will harness greater technology that will in turn bring up many more problems that the president will have to address, it’s just common sense. Nowadays the presidency is a much more stressful job than it was in the 1800's and Americans are finally starting to realize that. If you compare photos of President Obama in 2008 and 2014, it looks likes he’s aged 10 plus years, and it’s mostly because of the stress of the presidency. Back when George Washington was president, it didn't seem like it was that much of a stressful job, but today’s presidency changes that perception completely. For quite some time, America was only used to being informed via print media. Today, we can rely on print, electronic, and new age media to inform us. How we are informed about issues surrounding the president is how we develop our opinions and views on the president. Sadly, we live in a very superficial society where we think that anything that gets reported has to be true, when sometimes it’s not true at all. For example, whenever I see a short “quote” from a president or hear an
