Abstract Not all approaches to quality control are effective. Nonconformities in production line testing are typically caused by process variation and mistakes. Statistical quality control can effectively control process variation, but it cannot detect or prevent most mistakes. Because mistakes or blunders are frequently the dominant source of nonconformities, we must look at historical trends in the use of quality control. As the philosopher George Santayana once said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.  Quality is ever evolving within an industry, so we as managers should be proactive rather than reactive when faced with future challenges. As managers it is important for use to know the various perspectives from which quality is viewed in order to fully appreciate the role it plays in the many parts of the business organization. Quality can be defined from six different perspectives: transcendent, product, value, user, manufacturing, and customer. As organizations came to realize the broad scope of quality, the concept of total quality management (TQM) or simply total quality (TO) emerged. Just in Time (JIT) Company specializes in the manufacturing of high pressure hose and tubing. The company was established in 1972, to produce custom hose and tubing as replacement parts in and around the local area. Our engineering and technology allow us to supply our customers with the best high pressure hose and tubing to meet their needs. JIT is a small company compared to Dayco which also produces hose and tubing. JIT supplies some specialized hose and tubing to John Deere for the construction of their skid steer. JIT has had its ups and downs with manufacturing hose and tubing. Historical records have shown that mistakes in manufacturing can be costly if our products are not measured correctly or the wrong fitting is used. Safety and quality within the company is of high importance, due to the fact that we sell products that are put under high pressure. Quality control measures must be emplaced.
