Yellowstone National Park is 2,221,766 square acres of nature and wildlife in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. Yellowstone was America's first designated national park, and was established in 1872 in order to keep the land in its natural state with little human interference. Many people protested the creation of Yellowstone because they could see the vast amount of resources available in the park. Despite peoples protests congress still passed the bill creating the national park. After it was created it got little to no funding and was the victim of many poachers and opportunists. That was until the management of the park fell on the U.S Army. The army maintained and enforced all rules and regulations of the park until the first national park rangers were created. Yellowstone has a very long history with native americans dating back to 11,000 years ago. Many different native american tribes would pass through or take up residence of Yellowstone annually every year at different times. Twenty six tribes have been confirmed to associate themselves with yellowstone at one point in history. The Sheepeater tribe was the only tribe that made Yellowstone their permanent home. The Sheepeaters and the U.S Army were able to coexist and they were allowed to hunt and do whatever they wanted in the park. Until recently the Sheepeaters still lived in yellowstone. The weather in Yellowstone is very unpredictable and varies from extreme sub zero temperatures to the upper eighties. In the summer the days range from seventy to eighty degrees and the nights are cool but can drop to below freezing in higher elevations. Thunderstorms are very common. In winter the temperature ranges from zero to twenty degrees and is sub zero overnight. The record lowest temperature is negative 66 degrees. In winter alone yellowstone gets an average of one hundred and fifty inches of snow. In the spring/fall the daytime temperature is thirty to sixty degrees and snow and rain
