The Future Economics of Social Security

I'm concerned about the future of Social Security; working until I’m 69 or 70 years of age doesn't appeal to me. Social Security is on the fast decline and has left many people, especially those around the retirement age, wondering how they are going to make ends meet. The fact that this system is disappearing quickly is turning into a major problem because there is a large percentage of the economy that is on the verge of retiring. I had to witness my mom at the age of 65 looking for work to supplement her income. As rent raises, food and gas raises, she still has to make sure she doesn’t make too much or her social security check will be cut. Social Security was established to be a system set up to help people of old age. But for some time now, there has begun to be more people taking money out of the fund than putting money into the fund. While some people continue to refuse that there is actually a problem with Social Security, it has been proven that the system is slowly but surely disappearing. I’m not sure if it will be such a thing when I’m able to collect it at the age of 70. Denying the fact that there is a problem, could leave many people in a lot of financial trouble if they realize that there is no more security to fall back on. and they don't have money to retire because they weren't concerned with trying to find other ways of saving on their own. As a single parent I being able to save has not been an option for me yet. Some people have begun to come up with a few solutions of how the problem can be fixed, but not everybody is going to be happy with the proposed solutions. For example there’s been talk of the reform raising the payroll tax rate, people already have bad attitudes when it comes to the amount of taxes that they have to pay, so adding an increase in another tax would surely upset a large amount of people, including me!
