In an industrial setup or a home environment, there is often a need to control electrical machines or devices from a remote location. At present, many remote control techniques are available; each suitable for some particular cases. But one thing they have in common is that most remote controls is the need for a medium to carry the control signals. In case of wireless control it is either through RF waves or through optical medium like an infrared beam. In wired remote control there is a need for wires or sometimes optical fibers to carry the control information. In any case there is a need for a extra medium to achieve the remote control. This project aims at developing a remote control mechanism wherein there is no need for an extra medium to carry the control information. One thing common about all industrial machinery or appliances at home is the fact that they are all connected to the power lines. Hence this project makes use of the already existent power lines to control the machines. This is done by using a protocol called X10 which is a protocol meant specifically for controlling devices connected to the power lines using the power lines. Further as the system is completely bidirectional, the same power line can be used to receive data from the machinery and hence the remote can also act as a monitoring device with utmost perfection. The X10 protocol is used for this project because it allows the user to select a specific machine and then perform the control functions. Each machine connected to the power lines within an industry has a particular code used to identify it. Hence the user can select the particular machine using its code and control it easily. A single control and monitoring unit is connected to the power lines and with each machine a receiver unit is connected which is used to control the specific machine. The transmitter unit generates the X10 codes and transmits it on the power lines. All the receivers recei
