This paper explores how bullying has become a serious epidemic in schools all across the United States. Bullying has even evolved into something that a student can't escape once they leave school but it has developed into cyber bullying, where the torment continues online. This paper also talks about the changes that are being implemented in the last decade to combat against bullying and addressing solutions to this dread full pandemic. Each day children go to school to receive a good education included in that package is a safe environment. But in reality of this situation it is not safe for some students from their own peers in which the physical and psychological abuse occurs and may have negative lasting effect and stick with these children for the rest of their lives. In the past these actions could've been controlled better because it was limited to face-to-face interactions but how ever the evolution of the Internet in specific social media, which leads to cyber bullying this, is where the bullying comes home and it torments the victims. Professionals and the government overall recently have acknowledged bullying and it is a growing problem in the United States and with in the past decade programs have been implemented to prevent bullying. In 2014, kids learn about bullying starting as early as when they're in kindergarten. The following research focuses on this topic and what is done to prevent bullying. What exactly is bullying? Bullying is defined from the United States government as unwanted, aggressive behavior among grade school aged children that involves a real or perceived power in balance (Espelage & Swearer 2009) The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have lasting adverse effects. When it comes to bullying there are three different forms. Verbal, Social, and Physical, all three types have negative psychological effects as well as physical effects. Verbal bullying abuse includes teasing, name-calling and threatening to cause harm. Social bullying is when it affects relationships and social status among others such as leaving someone out on purpose, telling someone not to be friends with the individual, or even starting rumors. And physical bullying is obviously the intent to hurt a person's body as well possessions examples for this is including hitting, spitting, taking and breaking the victims belongings. Origins of the problems of bullying can date back all the way to the 19th century where it was finally brought to light.
