According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, (NHTSA), or there were 3,615 motorcyclist deaths in 2010. That was in the U.S. alone! Many studies have been done in other countries were the death toll is not nearly as high and in some cases even have more bikes on the road but sill have a better track record of keeping them safe. I am going to talk about a few simple things that we as riders can control. For example there is one piece of gear that will save your life. The NHTSA also claims that "at least 1,829 lives were saved in 2008 because riders were wearing helmets, and an additional 822 victims would have lived had they used a helmet." This is such an easy step to help keep you riding but there are still so many states that do not require the use of a helmet. Connecticut is one of them. State law or not you will never catch me on two without a brain bucket. Plus, I personally think they look cool. To those who say they can't afford one, I say shut up. You can find a full-face helmet, known to be the safest of all types, for under $100. However there should be no price on your head. These things work! Also they are coming out with bright and crazy designs that not only add to the attitude for your look but they also catch the eye of fellow drivers, making them much more aware of your presence. That is one of the biggest excuses for a "cager after they hit a motorcycle. I will explain what is meant by cager in just a moment. As a motorcycle rider you must understand there is a time and a place for everything. Personally, I think you should be able to show self control before hopping on a sportbike and popping wheelies or doing 150mph. If you can't ride responsibly you should be riding. These machines can pump out 150-horsepower easy. You may look at that and say, "Well that isn't all that much. My car has 250. What they don't think about is that bike is a quarter of the weight. The acceleration and pure p
