Question What is nutrition? Why is nutrition essential to our daily lives? Response Nutrition is supplements that our bodies need to stay alive and is provided to us by the food we intake. The human body ingests, digests, absorbs, metabolizes, transports, stores, and excretes the nutrients from food we eat. The nutrients we receive from food are essential to our daily lives because our body requires it in order to function properly, not just physically, but cognitively as well. The nutritional need for one person can be different from another person's because some people's body may require more or less of a certain supplement in comparison to another. Question What is the connection between nutrition and health? Response Nutrition and health go hand in hand. A person who receives a good supply of nutrients is typically healthy while someone who receives a poor supply of nutrients is typically unhealthy. Making sure the body gets proper nutrition allows the body have proper functioning (physically- being able to move our muscles correctly and mentally- being able to think correctly). This is because nutritional values like minerals and vitamins are what fuels the body and gives us energy. Question What is the relationship between poor nutrition and disease? Response Poor nutrition leads to poor health, resulting in diseases. When we don't feed our body's properly we get sick. An example would be an insufficient calcium intake. Calcium allows for proper muscle contraction, enzyme function, nerve transmission and more. The body will do all it can to maintain the correct amount of calcium within the bloodstream to the point where it will tap into the calcium of your bones. The result of this will lead to an earlier onset of osteoporosis in comparison to someone who has a sufficient calcium intake. Question What does it mean to eat a balanced diet?
