In the search to better oneself within the ranks of the workforce, there is one question that keeps coming up. How does one become an effective leader? Researching through a myriad of literature regarding leadership as well as management, it is clear that there are a wide variety of topics. One finds writings about theories, philosophies, strategies and ideals. Upon a more in-depth look at some of the literature available, it becomes clear that there are definitely some specific items that one must be able to accomplish in order to foster a good working environment and become an effective leader. However, there is no singular method of becoming an effective leader. In the search to become the most effective leader, one must examine a myriad of theories, philosophies, and traits. Fred Drennan and David Richey (2012) discuss some of the most sought after leadership traits; Goal setting, Motivation, training and coaching. The article also mentions that leadership is not merely an inherent talent, but can and must be learned. The article is rather current, being published in 2012. Knowing that California has some of the strictest safety laws, and Fred Drennan is the founder and president of Team Safety Inc. out of California, One is lead to believe that Drennan is one of the premier authorities on the topic of workplace safety. In one’s efforts of becoming an effective leader, one should think about all of the traits discussed in this article, training to develop them into a working model that effectively promotes a successful organization. Along with goal setting, motivation, training and coaching, it is suggested that charisma and the ability for one to intellectually stimulate one’s followers are another key of effective leadership. Brindusa Maria Popa is a Junior Lecturer at the Regional Department of Defense Resources Management Studies in Brasov, Romania. Popa discusses how successful organizations are the result of effective leadership and culture (2012). Popa also writes that charisma, motivation and intellectual
