Climate change is a significant and constantly changing problem that will soon prove to be devastating to the world’s ecosystem and human population. Climate change does not simply mean that the weather was really hot this year so something must be out of the ordinary. Climate is defined as the average of all weather conditions such as temperature, wind velocity, precipitation, etc. in specific regions over a period of many years. Climate change would then obviously mean that these conditions are changing. Our problem today is that the earth’s climate is changing in ways that have not been seen for many years, and the way in which it is happening does not look good. Research has shown that there is definite evidence that the earth’s climate is getting warmer and it appears that human activity is held responsible for much of it. Our energy and transportation systems rely heavily on polluting fuels that release millions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere which has a negative effect on our planet. While turning to alternative energy sources and reducing carbon emissions is what we need to be doing, it is already becoming too late for us to quickly undo the damage we have done to the environment. This is where geoengineering comes in to play. While the renewable resources and clean air solutions are slow to take off geoengineering provides us with a temporary but effective relief to the problems created by the changing climate. Since the late 19th century there has been a rise in the global average temperatures. This phenomenon is simply called global warming. Scientists from around the world from various science academies have accepted that human activity like the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation are responsible for the rise in global warming. Global warming is, as the term says, global. The problem extends over each and every country affecting everyone differently. Rising temperatures have caused the sea levels to begin to rise, therefore putting some coastal cities in danger. Increasing temperatures are also affecting crop cycles so that farming is now going to need changes. Alternative energies have been proposed so that we may avoid global warming but they simply can't work fast enough because this would involve a slow conversion which is not something we have time for. Luckily climate engineering is able to buy us that valuable time so that these methods will have time to develop to be successful. A short term but valuable solution to the clim
