There's a "little voice" of wisdom inside of everyone. It tells you what is right, who you should believe, and which paths to take. Sometimes, you may silence this little voice; it's human nature. When we second-guess ourselves we aren't listening to this voice. When we allow others to persuade us into doing something we didn't think of, and may not want to do, we are ignoring that voice. Deep down it is saying don't do it, but we can't hear it. In this book, "Their Eyes Were Watching God," the beginning is about how Janie silences her own little voice and listens to others. By doing this it steers Janie away from what she thinks love is. When Janie is in love she uses the beauty of nature and the richness of light to descried her emotions, but when Janie listens to others instead of herself, she loses herself and her interpretation of love. Janie's definition of love was formed in her interactions with nature. She saw a dust-bearing bee sink into the sanctum of a bloom; the thousand sister-calyxes arch to meet the love embrace and the ecstatic shiver of the tree from root to tiniest branch creaming in every blossom and frothing with delight. So this was a marriage! She had been summoned to behold a revelation. Janie watches and sees This quote is where Janie discovers what love is, and she finds it through nature. They accept each other for who they are and play up to each other's strengths. By watching this "natural" interaction, Janie discovers what love is. Thus, watching the pear tree and the bee is the beginning of the discovery of Janie's expectations of love and marriage. We can tell Janie does not love the man whom her Nanny forces her to marry because she doesn't use the beauty of nature to describe the relationship. When Janie is in love she uses nature and light to describe her feelings. We can tell Janie does not love the man whom her Nanny is forcing her to marry because she doesn't use the beauty of nature to describe the relationship. Although we know that Nanny is just trying to make sure Janie is supported financially and has someone to protect her that is not what Janie needs in order to be in love. Nanny doesn't mean to, but she pushes Janie away from her definition of love and persuades her into following and acting on other people's understandings, and not her own. Deep dow
