This article intricately explained the functionality of Intelligence Quotient (IQ) tests and explained their accuracy. According to an accidental discovery by social scientist James Flynn, an individual's IQ increases by a rate of about 0.3 points per year, which results in the increased intelligence of each generation. Upon reading this, I was very confused for I did not understand how intelligence simply increases with time. How can generations simply get smarter without any other factors other than time? I hadn't read more than two paragraphs yet my mind was already racing, devising questions and trying to create answers all at once. Already I was questioning the accuracy of these "IQ tests." As I read on, I was quickly enraged when I read a section in the passage that spoke of a topic very sensitive to me. As believed by James Watson, "From the perspective of an IQ fundamentalist, the fact that Africans score lower than Europeans on I.Q tests suggest an ineradicable cognitive disability. Cognitive disability? My brain is yet to wrap itself around that statement. According to a test created by Europeans and Americans (who do not have the slightest clue of African culture, making the test biased) Africans (who most likely know nothing of European and American culture) become labeled as illiterates with no hope of recovery. Already, the accuracy of I.Q tests has been disregarded in my book. I soon learn that my disbelief in accuracy of that I.Q test is shared by James Flynn who believes that "An I.Q. in other words measures not so much how smart we are as how modern we are. I could feel my temperature stabilizing for this explained why non-Americans and Europeans such as Italians, Hispanics, and dearest to me: Africans were doing so poorly on the tests. They could not completely understand the tests and its questions because their homes were not as advanced and "modern" as the Europe or the Americas. When given tests that were
