The Positive Side of Peer Pressure

21 Pages 759 Words 1557 Views

What's the best way to define peer pressure? It is the influence that friends, classmates and peers have on one another. Peer pressure is nearly always described as being negative, but there are a few positive effects of it. Peer pressure is the best way to get someone to do whatever you want, positively or negatively. Working hard, being nice, and being truthful are some examples of positive effects of peer pressure. One way a person can use peer pressure in a positive way is working hard in front of others. When people around students see them working hard and achieving what you want, it makes them jealous, so they start to work hard to achieve their goals. The best place to work hard is at school, in front of all your friends and classmates. Working hard pays off in the long run because once you get what you want you will be happy. A real life example of working hard and it rubbing off on someone else was when I was a junior in high school. It was the last couple weeks of school and I was beginning to slack and just give up in all my classes. My best friend, Megan Fisher, is the perfect example of a “hard worker,” and each day she would tell me how many days till summer. She would tell me to just keep pushing to get all "A’s," so that when I got into college it would be easier because I wouldn't have to keep all A’s in. She was the reason I got the grades I did at the end of the year. See? Peer pressure can have positive effect on people. Another way someone can use peer pressure in a positive effect on people is being nice. When someone is nice to you it makes you happy, so then you're nice to the people around you. If you're mean to someone and that person is already having a bad day, then you just made it worse and now they will take it out on the next person they see. Being nice or mean has a chain reaction. A real life example of this one is, I was walking out of school one day and saw this student rop all of his books.
