Sometimes, when I wake up in the morning, I feel as if someone just pushed the "play button" inside my head; every peaceful, blissful moment of sleep has vanished in an instant, and my brain is switched to begin it's daily mess of jumbled concerns, stress and confusion. Almost as if they keep hitting rewind and play, over and over? I know I do. As I examined the six dimensions of health, I was able to asses each dimension of health in my life. I noticed that I could use the most improvement in my spiritual wellness and one practice of this is spending time in reflection. Reflecting on things that have happened in my day, assignments that have me stressed out, concerns on why my best friend ignored my text message and thoughts of not be able to find a job after school. After some thought, I decided to reflect in a journal so I can physically see what I am reflecting on. This is my lifestyle change. Mostly, when we think about health, we are thinking about the absence of diseases or illness. If we don’t have a disease, or we are not ill, we are healthy, right? Wrong. Our health is actually made of six different dimensions that relate and influence each other. When we consider our health, we need to envision the dimensions working together and understand that, that is our holistic health. The six dimensions are as follows: Physical Health This is probably the most straightforward dimension. In this dimension you need to focus on; exercising, using your cardiovascular muscles and strength training; eating healthy, a well-balanced nutritious diet and; self-care, avoiding harmful habits and keeping regular doctor and dental visits. To achieve a good physical health you can start by throwing out those frozen processed meals and preparing a well-balanced meal with fresh vegetables, proteins, and whole grains. You can pick up a sport such as kickboxing or if you're short on time you can take your fur babies on a brisk walk remembering to stretch before and after.
