In relation to article, “The Impact of Alcohol on Different Types of Violent Incidents,” the objective of this paper is to provide an informed discussion about the reading in question and to advance sound reasons for disagreeing with the arguments made in the reading. In the article “The impact of alcohol on different types of violent incidents” Felson, et al., (2007) focuses on three main points which include sexual assault, victims, physical assault and alcohol. In this article, the effects of the consumption of alcohol on an individual victimization risk for sexual and physical assault. Felson et al. focuses on the National Violence against Women (NVAW) Survey which recommend that the amount and frequency of alcohol consumed by people have serious on the risks to be victimized when drinking. The article also suggests that the amount and frequency of alcohol consumed is not associated with victimization acts while. From the evidence collected, Felson et al (2007) assumes that alcohol consumption has a “situational causal effect on victimization." Therefore, the article concludes that drinking cannot be credited to a prospective features that a related alcohol consumption. The highlighted effect is specifically strong for young adults and men, who may, from time to time, behave in proactive manner whey they are under the influence of alcohol. The article also establishes that men who are assaulted by their females and sexual assault victims are a subject to alcohol consumption. I disagree with Felson findings that indeed alcohol contributes to different types of violent outcome, but some types of violence are more intense partners than they are in stranger. Meaning, a person under the influence of alcohol has a higher chance to harm a partner than a stranger. Therefore, basing on the fact that Felson results suggest that “likely to increase the likelihood of a physical assault on a stranger,” it is important to understand the role of alcohol in violent crime (Felson, et al., 2007). Felson does not provide credible evidence relevant findings. Considering the findings my argument against the findings is based on theories that prove why people engage in violent acts while under alcohol influence. Rational Choice Theory The rational choice theory derives meaning from the principles of classical criminology that holds the fact that people choose their behavior freely. This freely chosen behavior is motivated by the pursuit of pleasure as well as the avoidance of pains. According to the theory, people are able to assess their choices of their acts according to each option’s ability to yield happiness, pleasures and advantage. The rational choice theory gives a micro-perspective on why offenders choose to commit certain crimes; certain decide on engaging in wrongdoing mainly because a specific crime can be easy, satisfying, rewarding as well as fun. Therefore, the major foundation of this this theory is that humans are rational beings whose actions can be modified or controlled by the fear of punishment. Therefore, because of this reason seas from offending others through intensifying the punishment of fear
