If we had to look at a list of the last centuries top novels, we would come across many works which will take us on some wonderful journeys to faraway lands. We would get to meet so many different characters, each unique in their particular way. For this speech, I wanted to select a book which not only did I enjoy reading, but also a story which had an impact on my life as a whole. The novel which I have selected sits in the top of most lists which have been compiled by critics the world over. It has been translated into numerous other languages and has even had a few movies made for it. Good morning everyone, today I have the pleasure of discussing a novel that I am truly passionate about. George Orwell wrote animal farm in 1945, yet it is still if not more relevant today. This story delves into topics which affect countries and highlight flaws which exist in some of the ideologies that certain people hold clear. It is fascinating read and today, I will inform you why it is still relevant and an all-time best seller. George Orwell was born under the name of Eric Blair in the British colony of India. He studied at the prestigious Eton College. He was awarded a bursary to study there. Although it was reported that Orwell neglected his actual studies somewhat, he did become actively involved in the college magazine. In 1922, Orwell travelled across the globe to Burma. It was also during this time that Orwell came to be regarded as someone who was an outsider (he would not lose this reputation for the rest of his life). A few years later, Orwell returned to Britain and began writing more seriously. Although he chose to live in Portobello road which is more up market part of London, he would venture into poorer areas for some inspiration whenever it was required.
