Introduction Family violence against women is an extreme form of male control over women. Men's violence pushes women into a subordinate position and it is often happens to intimate interdependent long-term relationship (Leslie Morgan Steiner “ why does women stay). Any act of gender-based violence that results in, harm to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life, as such intimate partner violence has been a the most significant issue for centuries in all countries. According to Canadian government survey on average, every six days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner. In 2011, from the 89 police reported spousal homicides, over 85% of the victims were women. (Homicide in Canada ,2011 ) Background The United Nations General Assembly  (UNGA), in its resolution on the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, defines "violence against women" as any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, like physical, sexual or mental harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, whether occurring in public or in private life (UN General Assembly). Domestic violence can also include physical, sexual, threats, economic, emotional and stalking. For example physical abuse as slapping, choking, or punching her. Using hands or objects as weapons and threatening her with a knife or gun. These definitions basically tell that domestic violence targets a specific group with the victim's gender as a primary motive. Causes Abusers choose to behave violently to get what they want and gain control. Their behavior often initiate from a sense of control which is often supported by sexist, racist, homosexuality and other discriminatory attitudes. First, as known that male chauvinism has been a social issue, some people thought inherent superiority of men over women, therefore, in our society, gender inequality is visible in many areas, including politics, religion, media, cultural norms, and workplace and even at home. Both men and women receive many messages in blatant and covert, that men are more important than women. This fundamental inequality causes a reason for insult, threat, control, abuse, and even murder. However, it becomes more reasonable for men to believe that he has the right to be in charge and to control a woman, even if it requires violence, they think that is reasonable. Furthermore, violence against women is rooted by the belief that women deserve less social power.
