When a culture is shown that something is easier or quicker, of course it is something that is taken advantage of and used. In the case that small indigenous cultures lose autonomy with the introduction of large western culture is absolutely ridiculous and wrong. Cultures chose what their cultural identity is and they chose what pop culture is and what folk culture is. Moreover, indigenous tribes are only as susceptible to customs that were placed by western thinking if they have a reasonable doubt that they are wrong. As well only a cultural traits and characteristics can be defined when the culture is defined or the traits incubuses by innovative adoption are noticeable or distinct. A culture is only as strong as what is starts out as and if it creates a large base on renovation and creating new that is what they will do the opposite is also true is a set of systems is set to work in a certain way than when a culture spreads their wings to earn more land than the expansion diffusion will be minimal. This continues with the relocation diffusion which a prime example would be native Americans when they were forced to reservations they continued their way of life as much as they could their since a lot had strong bases but now as you could see money goes to everyone's head and they took advantage of gambling and peoples love for it. So it is very distinctive to say that the culture can only diffuse as much as the origin has not solidified their own way of thinking or become unsure that they were right to think that way in the first place. If a tribe does not wear out side clothing due to heat why would once a year they wear thick coats for a season, the answer is that they wouldn't because they do not doubt that they need clothing. This is one of many examples of maladaptive diffusion where one thing may be super popular but it just does not work everywhere.
