Correspondingly, social media has played an immense role in shaping the transformation of ways people communicate with one another. Before people used to meet for coffee, stop by one another's house, or pick up the phone and call. People today, are consistently engaged in technological advancements that endorse nonstop communication and instant gratification, whether through cell phones, game consoles, laptops, or Ipods. This phenomenon now controls people's daily lives and cannot go one day without coming in contact with technological devices. This is starting to create lots of problems for humans both psychologically and physically. The advancements of technology have negatively influenced the social interactions of today's generation. While smart phones have become popular, internet capabilities and apps permits people to easily indulge in social networking through their mobile devices. Communication today takes place through either text messaging and a high amount likely occurs to be through social networks. Being that so many people spend an inordinate amount of time on social network sites, these individuals are most likely to communicate with friends and family through social networks rather than spending time with them in person. As a result, this ends up with less face to face interaction, which in the end can significantly affect personal relationships. Technology impedes personal communication; the Internet actually diminishes the communication abilities of society. When our communication skills are moderately reduced, we start spending less time talking to families, experiencing more daily stress, and feeling more lonely and depressed. Communication skills are important for everyone, yet the use of the Internet is damaging this development. Even though social networks can be good for communicating with others, they cause loss of concentration because the activities lend themselves to multitasking.
