Uncovering the True Dracula

Dracula, the 19th Century gothic menace, and “Bram Stokers parasitic Boyar vampire”, is a well-known character in the mythological and legendary genre (Snodgrass). Dracula is a blood sucking vampire that lives in a castle in Transylvania. In Transylvania, Dracula goes after Lucy Westenra and Mina Murray to try and make them his vampire brides. This results in Abraham Van Helsing, an expert on vampires, and Mina’s fiance, Jonathon Harker trying to destroy Dracula. In the end, the men successfully destroy Dracula by cutting his head off clean with a special knife and stabbing him in the heart with a bowie knife. This story has prompted hundreds or even thousands of stories and novels that are remakes or influential stories, which many may only know Dracula from. Because of this, some individuals may know the wrong Dracula. By looking at Dracula’s true personality, whom he was based on, and the reality of him and not the misconceptions that are often associated with him, one can then truly interpret him. Dracula’s personality can be described as a diabolical sex fueled menace. “As an antichrist seeking to overthrow both decent womanhood and religiosity”, Dracula diabolical plan is to create a race of vampires (Snodgrass). In his quest for world domination, Dracula first invades London to begin his reign of terror. Once there, he aims to kill an immense amount of people. In the story, Dracula says to Johnathan Harker, “I long to go through the crowded streets of your mighty London, to be in the midst of the whirl and rush of humanity, to share its life, its change, its death, and all that makes it what it is” (Stoker 2.30). The reason Dracula wants to go to London is that in Transylvania, Dracula, has sucked the life out of it, meaning there are not many more people for him to feed on, but in London there is a mass number of fresh blood.
