The ban on soda is the best way to reduce the rate of child obesity. Researchers have been able to provide the best evidence that soda (sugary drinks) have a strong impact on child obesity. Making it hard for children to receive these types of drinks show that it can curb weight gain. Mayor Mike Bloomberg has the right idea for banning large amounts of soda being sold at restaurants. His main goal is stop and reverse the effects of child obesity. The soda ban in New York City is a great thing. It will help stop the children of New York City with having weight and medical issues at a younger age. The ban prohibits the use of containers that hold 16 fluid ounces from restaurants and fast food chains. There have been studies that show if people are given larger portions of a certain thing they feel inclined to drink or eat more of that substance. The ban is definitely not perfect for the fact that convenience stores, supermarkets are exempt from this ban. Also drinks that are considered milk based are exempt with alcohol. But even with that said it is still one of the only moves forward at least Mayor Bloomberg is willing to make the first move to stopping child obesity instead of other officials that rather just allow it to continue because they are afraid of the public's criticism. He does what he believes in and that is a world without child obesity and he is brave enough to start a ban to start the movement forward. Drinks other than soda quench your hunger, soda does the exact opposite it makes you even more hungry and that causes the child to eat more and gain more weight. Soda companies have felt the pressure from the public and especially the mayor. The company Coca Cola has planned to release a commercial dealing with obesity. About 7% of daily calories that are consumed by Americans are from sugared beverages. Studies show that kids drink more than adults for kids they receive 15% of their daily calories from sugary drinks such
