Introduction This case study is prepared from an Organizational Development and Change standpoint. It is a structured case to understand Organizational Change process at Nokia along with the methods used to implement the change and effects of such change management within the organization and its effects in the industry. The case draws attention to the fact that up until 2007, Nokia was the market leader in mobile phones industry. The emergence of smartphones by apple and other manufactures in 2008 caused the market share of Nokia to fall down significantly. This triggered Nokia to adapt organizational change development strategy in its business operation. Nokia was a leader in 1998 and kept its leading position for several years and at the turn of the century Nokia’s products were revolutionary and transformed the entire industry until Nokia was overtaken by Apple with the introduction of its iPhone in 2007. The introduction of the iPhone made Apple the market leader in smart phones and Nokia’s market share started to dwindle. Nokia fell far behind in the smartphone market. (Kristen, 2011). Nokia & Microsoft have worked very closely and aligned in the smartphone market since February 2011 when Steve Ballmer - Microsoft CEO and Pema Nokia-CEO, surprised the smartphone market with a strategic partnership and Microsoft being the potential owner of Nokia this has led to a potential transformation of Nokia into rivals to Apple and Google. Transition During this transition, Viviane, Nokia’s one of the oldest employees who was hired in 1996 till date is part of this organization. Before the retrenchment Viviane used to work as Production Manager in Salo, Finland. As part of a successful organization she was one of those employees who had a major role in bringing Nokia as one of the Market Leaders in 1998.
