An argument is an exchange of opposing views often times using reasoning and justification. The point of an argument is usually to persuade an audience using supportive claims. Argumentation in an episode of Question Time, a television show where politics and public issues in the community are discussed and debated in front of a carefully selected audience, is what is going to be analyzed in this paper. Question Time is a television show that is broadcasted live on the BBC channel where politicians or well-known leaders in the community make an argument about given questions mostly involving their expertise. The politicians are usually chosen from the three main political parties in the United Kingdom which are: Conservative, Labour, and Liberal Democrat. The claims made by these politicians are often times not supported effectively. Though some of the claims argued have been factual, they could have been improved by including more logos. In a particular episode of Question Time, three politicians, all from different political parties, and two well-known leaders in the community debate the topic of the death penalty due to the Troy Davis case in the state of Georgia. Troy Davis was an African American male from Savanah, Georgia believed to have been wrongfully executed on September 21, 2011. His case caused a lot of controversy in all parts of the world including Great Britain. Great Britain, along with many other countries, abolished capital punishment in 1965. The country’s attitude towards the execution of Troy Davis is very negative. Most of the citizens of Great Britain are against using capital punishment as a deterrent. Four out of the five Politicians were against the death penalty while only one, Priti Patel, was for the death penalty. Priti Patel, a politician from the conservative party, makes plenty of strong arguments with minor flaws. Since Priti Patel herself is a Member of Parliament from the conservative party, he
