Students, Grades and Lack of Sleep

Have you ever pulled an all-nighter completing homework or putting the finishing touches on a project? We've all been in that position. Unfortunately, the amount of sleep you receive is critical for your wellbeing, and there are detrimental consequences for lack of sleep. Although some do not, it is said teens like to sleep in late. You'll often see parents in movies or on television having to dump a bucket of water on their children to get them to wake up in the morning. Yes, it's hard. Admit it: snoozing your alarm in the morning is always tempting. Studies show that the average teen requires approximately "nine and a half  hours of sleep each night in order to properly function the next day. Extra curricular activities, part-time jobs, sports, and homework are all responsibilities that come with being a teenager, which is why it's difficult for a teenager to obtain the proper amount of sleep. As a senior in high school and one who is able to relate to such a controversial topic, I argue "Middle and High School  students should get the opportunity to wake up later for school. Imagine arising nice and refreshed with a full night's sleep; you'll be ready to tackle the day in no time. Those few extra hours of sleep will leave you more alert, and not practically drooling over your notebook. The consequences of lack of sleep in a young adult can range from less severe, such as being prone to pimples, to more severe, such as causing a limited ability to learn, listen, and concentrate. Likewise, it could also result in one forgetting crucial information. Studies also show that kids ranging in age from eight to ten require approximately eight hours of sleep each night; that's an hour and a half less than the time recommended for middle and high school students.
