21 Pages 1395 Words 1557 Views

A very important and often overlooked activity in today’s society is exercise. Exercise positively influences many aspects of life and people today are simply not incorporating it into their daily lives. What they don’t understand is exercise is extremely beneficial to physical and mental health. With a healthy mind and body people can go about their day feeling healthier, having a better sense of body image, and can process thoughts more clearly and concisely. It is also a physiologically natural way of fighting off stressors. What people first think of when they think of exercise is purely looking like a model and the fact that people will envy the way you look. While this may be true, and also may be an initial reason people are attracted to the gym, people who frequently work out quickly learn that exercise creates a euphoric feeling after the gym and it instantly hooks many people and keeps them coming back. Some people say exercise is like a drug. While this expression initially seems far-fetched, exercise has an impact on the brain that is very similar to drugs. What exercise and drugs both have in common is they release “feel-good” chemicals in the brain. The best feeling attainable from exercise kicks in as soon as you’re walking out of the gym, it is an endorphin rush, which is an opioid produced by the body as a physiological response to gratify itself after coping with a stressor. This endorphin rush creates an addictive effect. People are always looking for ways to feel good, this is also why people become addicted to drugs as well as the gym. The main difference between exercise and abusing drugs is clearly the fact that exercise is the healthy and natural way to get high. Anyone can drink a beer or smoke some weed to feel good. It is easy to go out and buy them and use them, which is why drug abuse is the most common way to get high. With exercise, it is not easy to get that feeling that people lust for. The gym requires a lot of time out of your day and of course you have to cope with the rigorous task of actually working out. With exercise opposed to drugs, exercise is simply a natural and healthy way to feel good, and also helps relieve stress. Everyone has had the feeling like they’ve needed to scream their head in their pill
