Retinoblastoma is a rare malignant renal tumor that affects children. This tumor is cancerous and it forms in the part of the eye called the retina. The retina is the sensitive lining on the inside of your eye. In this research paper I will be discussing the different causes, symptoms, complications, treatments, effects and preventions of Retinoblastoma Retinoblastoma is most common in young children but may rarely occur in adults. Retinoblastoma is the most common form of cancer affecting the eye in children between birth and five years of age. It may occur in one eye or rarely both eyes (Management). Retinoblastoma happens when the nerve cells in the retina develop genetic mutations. The mutations cause the cells to continue to grow and multiply when the healthy cells die. The buildup of cells can form a tumor. The cells of Retinoblastoma can spread to further parts of the eye and nearby parts of the body. These parts can include the brain and the spine (Lohmann). For the most part it is not certain what causes the genetic mutations that lead to Retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is the most deadly eye cancer disease. Although it is treatable the cure rate of this cancer that has been developed world wide is 95-98%. Nine out of ten sufferers survive from this disease (Staff). Retinoblastoma can be inherited by children from their parents. Approximately 30 to 40 percent of Retinoblastoma cases are hereditary. Hereditary Retinoblastoma is passed from parents to children in an autosomal dominant pattern. This means that only one parent needs a single copy of the mutated gene to pass the increased risk of Retinoblastoma to the children. When one parent carries the mutated gene each child has a 50 percent chance of inheriting the gene. When the form of Retinoblastoma is inherited the child that inherits the disease tends to develop the disease at a much earlier age. Hereditary Retinoblastoma occurs in both eyes as opposed to just one eye (Brothers). Retinoblastoma does not have many symptoms. A few of the symptoms may include a white color in the center circle of the eye called the pupil when light is shown in the eye. This happens usually when taking a flash photograph. Another symptom is eyes that appear to be looking in different directions. The last two common symptoms are eye redness and eye swelling. When a person has Retinoblastoma you will not be able to tell that they h
