In times of insecurity, people become radical in terms of finding solutions. This claim has been expressed throughout history in multiple occasions. For instance, the conflict between the British Empire and the colonist of North America can easily be described as a revolution. The connotation of “revolution” is “a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time.” Intellectuals may not agree that the colonist enacted a new organizational structure but they did indeed. The colonist enacted the first republic democracy known to the Western Hemisphere, contrary to the British who ruled under a constitutional monarchy. The idea of political revolution can be described in 2 ways by arguably the greatest philosopher of the Hellenistic era, Aristotle. Aristotle describes a revolution as “a complete change of a constitution or extreme modification of one”. The Americans clearly defended this fact by drafting its own constitution in the year of 1787. This consisted of how much power to allow the central government, how many representatives in Congress to allow each state, and how these representatives should be elected. This completely contrasted to the ideology of the mother like behavior enacted by the British. Also the idea of mercantilism became obsolete in terms of economic stability. Through the ideas of the Enlightenment the people of the colonies restored order in terms of government and ideology. The Haitian Revolution on the other hand can be contrasted to the American Revolution. The Haitian Revolution, which consisted of slaves, was an overthrow of the French ruling, then the Haitian people continued to rule the same way, the only way they knew how to.
