Since the first expedition to find land across the ocean, to nowadays, the American Dream has always accompanied the hearts of Americans. America allows anyone to reach for his or her dream. Some of these dreams can be reached and some cannot because of the present social class: the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The American Dream is only a dream for the few people who struggle to move up the social structure, working twice as hard to get up on their feet. Although some people have difficulties to fulfill their American Dream, a vast majority is living the American Dream. To be free, to be a part of a country with cultural diversity, and to achieve the pursuit of happiness and prosperity defines the American Dream. The beauty of being free is the American Dream. As stated in the Anthem by Rite Dove, "We feel that in America, there are doors opened or will open because other nations will not. The United States illuminates new hopes and opportunities for immigrants to seek a new life without restrictions that other countries posses. The freedom to express, to receive a better education, and to practice a religion of choice is held dear and inseparable from all Americans. People are encouraged to express themselves; they are given the freedom of speech, choice, and press to let go and tell their inner most feelings to the public. Furthermore, America allows anyone to receive an education and achieve anything regardless of his or her social status, ethnicity and gender. Living in the United States also permits people to practice any religion of choice; thus, it generates diversity and promotes understanding and awareness of other cultures. From the very first explorers to set foot on America, to an invasion of immigrants from all around the world, America became a beautiful mosaic with diverse cultures molded together as one.
