Being a member of Congress my values are to win reelection, to serve my district well, and to help create good public policy. In order to achieve my values that I have during my term, I must respond to the views of my Constituents. I must not listen to special interests or just to my own opinion, but to the interests of the Constituents and to do my job as a true representative. It sort of very similar to a lawyer and their client, great communication and trust is needed between the two if not, the lawyer is just going to get fired and then have a bad reputation. As long as I do what I am called to do and keep my constituent satisfied, then I will know that I am doing my job well. The battlefield of being a good representative is during high salient issue, where I’m listening to conflicted opinions and my vote could affect my incumbency for next time. During this time is where the opinions of both my internal and external influences are looked at because not everything should be based off what the constituents wants. The reason for this is because Congress have realized that Constituency have paid little attention to politics in past time, so we had to learn to turn to alternative resources to make a decision that is going to help create good public policy. So my job is to be their mother while they are still at their teen’s age wanting things, but not understanding that it’s not the wants that truly matter but what they need. Another external influence would be to look at opinions of interest groups. Two particular different types that I must look at those that have a connection to constituents, especially member districts and those that have the ability to mobilize followers in my district. Doing viewing the opinions of the interest group, I must pay great attention to the legislation scorecards and see the reviews that I am getting to make additional changes or not.
