Racism - A Common, Everyday Problem

Many people around the world are discriminated against every day. Racism occurs in every race of people in this world. Some people say that racism has decreased nowadays but I disagree. I have not experienced racism towards myself, but I have witnessed it first-hand happening to a friend of mine. My friend’s parents are African American, but he was born and raised in Miami. People said rude and nasty things about him and his family. These incidents happened to him when I was with him in high school. Racism is the number one thing that is making people depressed in the United States. My friend’s name is Anthony. He is an educated person and is polite to everyone, even those who discriminated against him. When people saw us together they would not look at me good. I didn’t care too much because people did not know what a good person Anthony is. They would sometimes come up to us at lunch and talk to him saying racist comments, but he did not hear them or at least ignored them. I would not say anything at the moment, but I would later tell those people that they were being rude and that I understood what they were saying, even though Anthony did ignore them. Then they would just laughed and asked me why I was nice to Anthony. In response, I would tell them that they did not know what they are saying, because Anthony is a good person and does not deserve to be treated badly. Some of the people in my class are racists and I would overhear them speak about my friend Anthony. They would say that he shouldn’t be in the school and that he and his family should go back to Africa. They would also say that he should go and sit at the back of the bus. Then eventually, Anthony caught on to what was happening, and he didn’t realize why they were treating him this way. Anthony then fell into depression and dropped out of school. He started to do drugs and drink alcohol. I talked to him telling him that he is making a big mistake
