Religion is a term that can be used to illustrate the roots of life, or the universe or the connection between humanity and its existence. Religion sometime includes some special believes, symbols and holy places. Religion also can be described as rituals that the believers practice in order to praise god. Religion can also be used in many aspects for instance it can be used as part of a story. In the story A Simple Heart, Gustave Flaubetrt illustrates that he endorses religion in his story in three different parts. First, Flaubetrt shows that Félicité is simple and uneducated but still religious. According to Flabetrt she is uneducated because Paul explains the engraving to Félicité and says Paul’s explanation would be the extent of her formal education (268). Additionally, when she asks Monsieur Bourais to show her Victor’s house on the atlas which is impossible because the purpose of an atlas is to show countries not tiny houses, she shows how naive she is (275). Flabert demonstrates that Félicité is socially uneducated because she did not know how to deal with the young man who wanted her and also did not know in the first place that he wanted something from her (266). Clearly, she is innocent and uneducated about how to deal with people. In addition, one more aspect shows that her lack of education in religion because she has never been exposed to religion as a child and when she goes to the church with Virginie she learns many things in her religion. Even though she is simple and uneducated, especially in religion, she is still close to God somehow. According to Flabert, in the very beginning when Félicité finishes her work in the house and goes to sleep she keeps her rosary in her hand which indicates that part of her is sort of connected to religion (266).
