Abstract Marshall Mathers III was named the best selling artist of the 2000s by MTV (Montgomery, 2009). He was born on 1972 in Saint Joseph, Missouri then later moved to the poverty-stricken streets of Detroit Michigan. This soon became the origin of his trials and tribulations from an early age and into adulthood. By using music as a means to communicate his life story, many would argue this significant artist later named Slim Shady and Eminem is possibly one of the most inspiring people alive. This rapper, record producer, songwriter and actor, demonstrated his commitment to the hip-hop culture and music as an expressive art. Using the stage name and alter ego; Slim Shady, he often expressed a Neurotic personality that demonstrated feelings of anger and hate by using violent words and physical actions. As his career developed he created Eminem, his method of expressing with an extravert personality trait and then more towards an agreeableness, consciousness and openness trait. Marshall Mathers created the demon named Slim Shady to embody all negative emotions and defeated the demon with the character Eminem, as expressed through his albums. Eminem’s turmoil began when his father abandoned him during infancy. He was rejected by his father at every attempt of reaching out to him, and his mother suffered of alcoholism, with no guidance or nurturing figure, Marhsall suffered tremendously. Furthermore, due to his mothers inconsistency with maintaining a job, Eminem had no choose but to move from school to school creating instability throughout his childhood. In addition, this led to having to repeat the ninth grade three times and ultimately drove him to drop out of high school at 17 years of age. Although discontinuing his formal education, he still held a passion for English Literature. While living in poverty, and with no friends or family available, all he had was pen and paper. He fused his interests of writing and hip-hop into a new and promising passion in music; this was the beginning of Slim Shady.
