The differences between early Nacirema and late Americans are very intriguing. Nacirema people were a people who were very set in their ways, just as a majority of Americans are today. The Nacirema were a society obsessed with the preservation and maintenance of their bodies. There are many Americans who are also obsessed with the preservation and maintenance of their bodies as well. Although the ways that people have taken care of themselves have changed drastically from then until now, if society as a whole is looked into a little deeper, a realization is made; Nacirema and Americans aren't so different. Nacirema people had many body rituals, some of which were done privately, and others in which were done with the help of "medicine men  (Miner 123). Americans have many body rituals that compare to those of the Nacirema people. One example from Miner's passage that relates Nacirema people to American people is that they "[inserted] a small bundle of hog hairs into [their] mouth, along with certain magical powders, and then [moved] the bundle in a highly formalized series of gestures  (Miner 124). Americans have since changed or ˜upgraded' the ways in which they perform many of their body rituals. Some examples of the ˜new' body rituals among Americans are showering, styling their hair, getting their nails done, getting waxes, etc.. First, a daily routine of showering, is very common among American people. To shower, American's stand under flowing water and wash themselves from head to toe; meanwhile, many series of gestures are involved, just as the Miner had described of the Nacirema people. To someone from a different culture, the act of showering may seem strange. They might shower in a much different way, such as in a bathtub; hence the name ˜bathing'.
