Nowadays, it is unfortunate to see that people are becoming too dependent due to the convenience of advanced technology. People use technology to do almost everything on a daily basis and have become the center that society revolves around. Computers, cellphones, GPS tracking, and other modern devices have become an important tool to help people in many different aspects of life because of its desired outcome. According to the article “How I Recognized the Addiction of Text Messaging Syndrome” written by A.H. Scott and the article “Benefits of Technology” written by Rahul Thadani both shows the impact that technology does in our society. Many people do not see that relying on these kinds of technology is more harmful than helpful. Although technology does wonderful factors and it is beneficial in people’s lives it should be limited to avoid the negative impact on social interactions, privacy, and educational development. Technology is helpful and easily accessible in connecting people together across the world; however the importance of social skills is deteriorating and is not developing as strongly as they should. Today people tend to rely on technology to communicate with someone. Through this kind of communication it can create problems in relationships especially with family and friends who make it more difficult and challenging to socially interact with, because they are often focused on their gadgets and are not aware of their surroundings anymore. According to the article “How I Recognized the Addiction of text Messaging Syndrome,” we should value the present moment that we have or “Will you regret in one month, six months, or a year from now an ordinary moment when you realize you decided to spend time focusing on the next incoming or outgoing text message rather than spend time with your family and loved ones?” (Scott). By Socially engaging we are given the chance to become closer and comfortable with a person. We share our experiences and stories; we express our emotions to share real laughter, tears, or even anger. Technology hinders personal communication and by communicating behind a screen we cannot truly catch the tone of their voice, see their face expression, and especially we cannot look them in the eye.
