Her books are typically recommended to age groups eight through sixteen, but include elements even for adult readers. I Am David was originally published under the title David in Denmark, where it became a million-copy bestseller and received numerous awards. At times she also wrote under the pseudonym Adrien de Chandelle. Anne Holm also wrote a well-known book by Holm is Peter (1966), which tells the story of a teenage boy who travels in time to ancient Greece and medieval England. She married J.C Holm in 1949 and later divorced him. Anne Holm passed away on December 27 1998. The purpose of writing I Am David is to give us a learning experience. Throughout the book Anne Holm teaches us many values in life through the main character David. Never give up was a major value that is taught throughout the book. Another value that can be learned is appreciating and being happy with the things that we have. Ms. Holm said of her book, I wrote David because it seemed to me that children, who can love a book more passionately than any grown person, got such a lot of harmless entertainment and not nearly enough real, valuable literature.
