Physical Education - Improving Our Overall Health

Physical education is a course taken in elementary, middle, and high school that encourages movement and physical activities which enhance childrens fitness and health. The physical education curriculum is designed to allow students to experience activities such as dance, wrestling, mixed martial arts, yoga, and volleyball. Students are encouraged to engage in those activities that interest them while maintaining their fitness. The fitnessgram test establishes individualized goals for students, gives students the responsibility of recording and managing their fitness activities, helps educate parents and students on the importance of physical activity, and creates detailed progress reports on the students health and fitness. I like my physical education experience in yoga because it helps increase my flexibility and it is a good form of exercise in which I burn calories and maintain a healthy weight. I get the opportunity to perform poses that I never have executed before, I am able to relax and release tension and stress during the day. The disadvantages of physical education are getting sweaty, d I having to change quickly, and rushing to class in order to be on time. The definition of physical activity is "any body movement produced by skeletal muscles that results in energy expenditure above resting level." This means that physical activity is any movement that requires the body to work harder than it usually does while sitting, or resting. I believe that my physical activity level is sedentary. I am average and active less than 30 minutes a day and I dont have the time to exercise consistently. I am not involved in any extracurricular sports activities because I focus on my schoolwork. Although I have not participated in any organized activities or programs in Murrow in the past year, I would be interested in participating in swimming, tennis, and running.
