This reflection paper this week really got me to thinking. Since mankind is created in the image of God, how will that affect my profession? I am attending Liberty University to earn my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. I will be teaching God's children, so I feel like this is a great opportunity to build a strong relationship with Him, so that I know what He wants me to teach His young children. There are many examples that I could use for this paper, but I am going to focus on being honest with my students, co-workers and my bosses. The second example I will be using is, kindness and compassion within my teaching. I will use these skills, prayers, readings, and scripture from the Bible to grace my professional life in the teaching world. Honesty The first example of using mankind being created in the image of God is, using honesty in my chosen vocation, being a Kindergarten teacher. Honesty is import in all aspects of life, the workplace being one very important place. The Bible speaks of honesty often. One verse that I found is that I thought flowed well with this example is 2 Samuel 7:28 and it says, ""Now, O Lord GOD, You are God, and Your words are truth, and You have promised this good thing to Your servant . This scripture shows us that God's word is good. He expects our word to be good as well. Our book, Praxis: Beyond Theory discusses an entire section on truth. It says, "In the same way, truth is that anchor- that ˜point of reference'-that we all should cling to in order to secure our bearings in life . (Etzel & Gutierrez, pg.25) Truth and honesty should be our anchor. So with in my profession, I want to use my relationship with God to make me an honest person all the time. I pray to be honest with my students, my co-workers, and with my bosses. These small five year old children will be looking up to me, so I hope that I can mold an extraordinary example into them.
